After spending the past 10 years as the Boys Track & Field Head Coach Chris Brown has decided to step down from his position. Brown served as the Head Coach from 2005 through 2014. His teams amassed a 77-7 dual meet record and garnered 4 TVC titles and 3 regional championships.
With the passing of the 2010 Bond Proposal the new track and field facility upgrades began in June 2011 and was completed on July 18th, 2013. The track running surface was completely upgraded and resurfaced. The High Jump, Long Jump and Pole Vault approaches are also new. The Discus and Shot Put each include 2 new pads. Track & Field Facility Dedication
In 2010 voters approved a bond which included the upgrades of the track and field facility at Alma High School. In the spring of 2013 the Panther Track & Field Program will compete at Alma High School for the first time in over 5 years. The Alma Athletic Department was proud to welcome back nearly 30 former all-staters, school record holders, state champions, captains, and coaches to participate in a ceremonial relay to open the new track and field facility during halftime on Friday, October 19th, 2012. Steve Humm is named new Boys Head T&F Coach
Steve Humm will begin his second stint has the Alma Boys Head Track & Field Coach at the start of the 2015 season. Humm previously served as the boys head coach during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. 2015 will be Humm's 8th season with the Panther T&F program. Throughout Humm's career at Alma he has coached the throwers (1995-1996) the sprinters/hurdlers, (2010-2014) and handled the head decisions (2000-2001).
Tim DeJong signs to run track at Cedarville University
Tim DeJong signed his letter-of-intent to run at Cedarville University on July 1, 2013. He is picured with Head Track Coach Chris Brown and his father Mr. Daniel DeJong.
Sanchez vs Sanchez
Brothers and former AHS track & field alumni Nathan Sanchez, 2008, of CMU and Adam Sanchez, 2012, of Alma College competed against each other for the first time at the Lyle Bennett Open on the campus CMU on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Each brother anchored his schools 4 x 400 meter relay team. Nathan, the 5th year senior bested his freshmen brother Adam's split slightly as the Chippewas relay squad also beat the Scots relay team.
2006 Alumni Griffin Bohannon competes in the BOSTON MARATHON
On Monday, April 15th, 2013 former distance runner, from the class of 2006, Griffin Bohannon, competed and finished the Boston Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 44 minutes, and 15 seconds.
Sanchez and Bradshaw selected to compete for TEAM MICHIGAN
Adam Sanchez and Chaz Bradshaw were selected to compete for Team Michigan at the Midwest Meet of Champions on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They become the 5th and 6th AHS athletes ever selected to compete at this prestigious meet which brings in the top seniors from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio and has been held since 1974. Chaz Bradshaw Signs with CMU
Chaz Bradshaw signed his letter-of-intent to run at Central Michigan University on National Signing Day, February 1, 2012. He is picured with his mother Sasha, father Chuck, Head Track Coach Chris Brown and Athletic Director Eric Huff. Chaz will become the third Alma athlete in the past seven years to run at CMU joining Marcus Breidinger and Nathan Sanchez.
